According to the US Migration Information Source, there are 15 states in which the vast majority of all refugees resettled in the United States are initially placed: California represents nearly 20 percent. Voluntary agencies, mostly religious or community-based organizations, are integral to the refugee resettlement process in the United States, providing resettlement planning; placement; basic needs support, including housing, furnishings, food, and clothing; community orientation; and referral to social service providers including health care. New Hope for Women and Children is an organization with extensive experience, close connection, and sensitivity to the special health, education and other immediate needs of HIV/AIDS-affected and orphaned Ethiopian children and their families. Our priority is basic needs and health care for Ethiopian families and children affected by HIV/AIDS. The urgency for the existence for New Hope for Women and Children is to provide an immediate neighborhood source of assistance to Ethiopian families in San Diego County through HIV/AIDS education; counseling and referral services; food and basic needs support; special education programs for children and home based caregivers trained in counseling and health care. The mission of New Hope for Women and Children is to offer hope to the abused, abandoned and neglected children of Ethiopia East Africa. We accomplish this by mobilizing and strengthening communities so that they can respond to HIV/AIDS. We provide basic services, including AIDS education, and training support to HIV/AIDS affected Ethiopian refugee and immigrant families with special emphasis in serving HIV/AIDS orphaned children.
